DE_JUNKYARD CREATED BY UNREAL
About time! Here's another map I created (after more then 4 months of not releasing anything), this one being an entry for The Junkyard Mapping Contest. I know I've been very inactive lately, but that's just how mappers work. Sometimes I just can't find something worth releasing, and I freakin' missed all of this excitment of waiting to see how people react to my work. SO HERE IT IS! Finally! wuff!
Well, what can I say, these guys always come up with something different from what I've ever done, but I guess that's good because it helps us improve. For this one particular contest tho, I was kind of shocked as I was imagining map submissions spammed with vehicles all over them and just total madness. I chose to go with something cleaner, and opted to map for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to start of my map series for the CS saga. The biggest challenge of all for this map was without a doubt optimization. The theme didn't help I must say, but if it was easy, there wouldn't be any fun about it. I managed to keep the map "playable" I'd say, but as you can guess, the amount of props in this map is insane! So I decided to take a risk and prioritize detail over gameplay, giving you one of the most detailed maps I've ever done since I started mapping. Not kidding! The map, in my opinion, ended up being "runable" without many performance issues even for my PC, with my normal settings I get 50 fps in average.
The map takes place in the middle of nowhere, where 2 roads cross. There began to appear small garbage dumps, and later it became an authentic junkyard. The owner of the place never complained and so that hill continued to evolve.
A group of terrorists decided to go there and blow the shit out of it, just for the lulz. SWAT heard about this and will try to stop them. END OF STORY.
The map is really fast paced, you can play it either in Arsenal demolition or regular Bomb map. It only has one bombsite, and its placed right in the center of the Junkyard. It has many diferent hiding spots, diferent route possibilities giving you many possible styles of playing it. I wanted to make it bigger, but the engine couldn't just handle that many props, I was already working on a limit.
The good aspect of picking the newest version of Source engine was obviously the lighting, yes, I love it! Although there are many other good things about the map. It's highly detailed, it has its own 3D Skybox, particles, sound effects, playable by 20 people, and some other stuff you might really want to check ingame. Also, a little easter egg. Here's a hint: EGGS. Killing it gives you +1 kill. For the lulz.
I tried to keep it simple enough so you don't have to do the hard work. Everything you need is in the pack, just extract it to your CSGO folder and get ingame. On the other hand, if you already changed gamemodes.txt once or more, you can probably do it again.
I want to apolagize all my loyal subscribers for not releasing any content, hopefully this one will compensate. To all the other people out there reading this, feel free to download, comment, rate, subscribe, vote up for mapper of the month, whatever, just do something! :D
Enough with the talking, thank you GameBanana for hosting the contest, I love you all. Thanks again, and have fun!
