A defusal map for CS:GO set in a water treatment facility.

Hi all, de_cistern is a defusal map for the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It is set in a water facility and supports up to 8 v 8 however there are 32 spawns overall in case anyone wants to edit it. I do not suggest this as the map is considerably detailed and players will suffer low framerates because of it.

This map has been in the making for 8 months and contains lots of custom content that I made myself.

Because of this the map is considerably large (300mb) and I understand that server limits are 64mb. Sadly there's no way around this except to ship the materials and models outside the BSP. For the moment the content is packed into the BSP but depending on the feedback we receive I will decide what to do next.

Thank you for your understanding.

I'd like to thank all those that helped test it and to those who wrote tutorials on making loading screens and radars etc. Thanks a lot!

Overall I've put a lot of effort into this map and it is thanks to Richard that I was able to work on this project so big thanks to him.

Enjoy the level and please leave us feedback whether it's positive or negative, it all helps in the end.

Also I made a .pdf called "The Making of de_cistern" which contains all the things I did and also documents how I got flow maps to work among other things. Please feel free to read it!

Known bugs:

Fire sound in t spawn but no fire.

Particles vanish when more than one player joins the level.

Water looks "crazy" when playing on low shader settings. (This cannot be fixed)

Door window frames are kinda rubbish and need to be fixed.

Bombsites do not break, this is intentional.

Wow this map is so well done. It definitely could have been one of the maps the came with the game. It's looks professional, great setting, fun gameplay. Rated 10/10

Yes I added it to the workshop. Technically I don't need this version on FPSBANANA anymore and as for B2 you can read the FAQ on my workshop version to get all your answers. Suffice to say a B2 is unlikely.

Hey, your map has been added to the Steam Workshop. That's a great news?

Do you reconsider the possibility to release a beta2/rc/final version?

Played on our 24 slots rush server, no one complaining about FPS. Not even about the size for DL, given the extreme quality of this map. In short, it just works really fine on a good server (even for modest clients).

Hoping Valve's gonna allow you to Workshop, we would really love a b2 !

It's playable but you may have lower framerates than usual. My PC isn't that good, GTX 285 4GB RAM and 2.56ghz processor and it can run it at 60 FPS whereas some people with even better PC's have problems with it. Can't be helped but if you are the sort of person that plays on low settings, at least set shader settings to high as that'll fix a water bug that is present in custom maps. Anyway enjoy your LAN match.

I'm doing lan with friends every 6 months and we are playing custom maps mainly. The next one - mid march - will be the first where we will play CS:Go customs instead of CS:S ones. I hope and I do suppose that beta 1 will be playable.

Anyway, that's a great job you've done with your friend.

We're not sure. I've got no more time to work on it and neither does my partner. Valve emailed us asking if we'd like to add it to the workshop but the problem is the limit is 100MB and the map exceeds this. To be honest, unless I get anything from this it's unlikely I'll work on it anymore. The CSGO community is severely lacking in numbers and the community refuses to accept the map into their rotation. We'll see how it goes but like I said it has to benefit us.

Are you still going to release another version (beta 2, rc, final), or is this the final version ?

Incredible looking map, the amount of effort and love put into this is really something to marvel at.

Reading the 'making of' document really does make me hate Source just that little bit more though, so many of the problems you encountered, as well as many of the problems I've come across using Hammer in the past, could be overcome so easily in other engines such as UDK. Hopefully Valve will do away with compiling in their new engine. Hopefully.

If anyone else is even vaguely interested in mapping, the making of is definitely worth a read, thanks for taking the time to write it up and upload it!

DevNotes

I made a document called "The Making of de_cistern" which can be downloaded here:

http://upload.habboi.co.uk/makingofcistern_final.rar

It documents my design decisions as well as explaining how I got flow maps to work. Enjoy.
