Tactical AWP

A simple reskin for the AWP.

My first skin for CS:GO.

A simple retexture for the AWP. Features a black, weathered finish, with bluish-black metal parts.

Installation:

  1. Copy the materials folder and paste it into your CSGO directory. If the folder doesn't exist, make one.
  2. Get Notepad++ and open your pak01_dir file. Back up your original Pak first.
  3. Find these lines and change them:

$basetexture "models\weapons\vmodels\snipawp\awp" to $basetexture "models\weapons\vmodels\snipawp\awa"

and

$basetexture "models\weapons\wmodels\wsnipawp\awp" to $basetexture "models\weapons\wmodels\wsnipawp\awa"

Then click save. Play. Enjoy.

I would suggest pasting the edited text provided here over the text to be changed in your pak file. Readme included. The download also includes a pre-edited pak01.dir if you want a quick installation.

    Was hoping the first skins for CS:GO would be better than quick overlay jobs so people can claim their skins were the earliest :/

    Anyway. Yeah, the low rating is due to the fact that this skin is little more than colour changes and some grunge brush here and there. The shader edits were positive, however, except for your decision to boost albedo tinting. That subdued the phong way too much for the metal parts.

    As for the people complaining about the difficulty in modding CS:GO: there's a reason behind that. Chet has stated in the past that CS:GO will be just as moddable as previous games. The reason it's so difficult right now is likely because Valve doesn't want people making skins right now. They want people to be testing the default content (what's going to be shipped in the final game). It IS a beta afterall.

    They'll likely add easier skin/addon support later on.

    i've read the valve developer wiki, and they state the VPK format is to make addons more convienient (basically it was made for games like l4d), but considering Counterstrike ISNT a game that uses (or needs) a addon system, hexxing is now a bigger bitch to handle all because of this new format; if only valve could pre-develop a episode 3 engine and make csgo based off of that, then much of the problems (or disconforts) of the community(s) would've never existed, theoretically

    thanks adam - i suspected it was something to do with the new achitecture from L4D & onwards but now i know - it will also mean my days of css texture editing won't have gone to waste
