Help with vpk pak import

I found the *.vtf background in the vpk pak's for cs:go and I created a new .vtf background to replace the current one - but I cannot find how to import it into the vpk pak so it overwrites the existing background. Can anyone help?

Please note: This is for a gui, and I have not made one in a long time so please cut me a bit of slack :)

    You cannot import to .vpk

    You should probaly know that since you said that you've done this before.

    Open up pak01_dir with notepad++

    And try to find the lines for that background.

    I think it would be like this:

    $baseTexture/materials/vgui/background..... or something.
