Your thoughts on CS:GO?

It's about to release, and I'd like to hear what the top notch customization community has to say!

Personally, after the last patch, I'll definately be playing it. Whether I'll go into competitive or not, I can't be sure, much depends upon the game it self. What I'll definately be doing is mapping, I love the fact they are going to make a CS:GO Workshop.

In terms of the game it self, plays much better IMO, still much space for improvement, no doubt about it, but I can already enjoy playing it, which was kinda hard some months back.

So, what do you guys think about it? Will you buy it?

I'm not Matuka but I can ensure you that for me the game is unplayable for the simple fact that every time I'm about to shoot someone my game stutters and sometimes even crashes, if they are not planning to release any more patches it's going to fail on day 1 :S

About the "moddability" of the game, they are only promoting mapping as far as I can see, using skins is extremely painful and something to be considered, I hope they at least add some kind of addon support or even workshop integration, as far as I know the workshop allows the uploader to update his submission and it will automatically update on the client, that's awesome and all but atm dota 2 already has a working workshop (I know it's not the same as the csgo one) full of items and most of them are... spam, is this what they want? Spam to be downloaded into your computer? Idk it's really a good idea but they might have to include some authentication system and hiring some moderators for the workshop.

About the models, I love the characteristic they have on their models, although I can't say the same about the textures, did you know that the vending machines' texture has a lower resolution than css?!

I'm looking forward to it personally. The gameplay seems a lot more accessible than that of Source and the introduction of an official gun game mode will definitely incite in a few players who maybe aren't up for the whole clan matches and super commitment that other players seem to have.

I've heard a lot of people complain about it become more simple to appeal to a wider audience and neglect the more hardcore fans. I can't say this is very true from my experience. Even if it was though, I'd be all for it, I can't say I'm that bigger fan of hardcore players who tend to dominate servers and leave new players frustrated and bored.

I can also see why Valve wouldn't be too big on letting people re-skin their weapons through a workshop. Maps are fine since they don't affect anything else in the game and leave the core experience untouched. Skins however can totally change the feel of a game and maybe in some cases can even unbalance it. Smaller guns or ones with transparent textures could be considered an advantage, giving the player a greater view port.

Though maybe that's just me trying to rationalize somebody else's decision...

Promising and ambitious is what I've felt from the beta. They really care and they have been carefully listening to community feedback during the beta.

Gotta agree with you, and I hate the fact some people just whine and do nothing but blaming valve for this and that without having a clue of what a beta is. And it seems like to me that, when dev isn't going so well, everyone starts hating like shooting everywhere instead of supporting even more like it should be... Ridiculous!

I seriously hope the game succeeds so all those people regret doing such things.

Well the game is pretty good, but imo it's not ready to be released

    • The game itself still has unstable FPS.
    • The textures are pretty low res even it's been set to high setting.
    • CSGO only has static props, while CSS has dynamic props (e.g . Barrels).
    • M4A4 doesn't have any silencer, and no flashlight.
    • Also, if you have tried to play with bots in CSGO, on expert difficult, the bots are really easy to be killed. While in CSS, the enemies can kill you easily.

Holy fucking shit - How the fuck could they make such good improvements on DeDust2 and DeInferno and then FUCK DE_NUKE UP BEYOND REPAIR. Holy shit balls in a frying pan with two ounces of mother fucking what and a pineapple. Past that - The economy is broken and theres some aspects to it that need to be improved on as well such visibility of enemy models because right now everything blurs into one another like a giant heap of shit. Which is pretty much what the Counter-Strike franchise is.

Would much rather play a better game such as QuakeWorld (#1, #2, and #3) or Warsow.

Well I think the game is really decent and-... I DON'T HAVE IT. Heh. Well I'm not planning on buying it either, because I could never enjoy CS:S or earlier versions. I do like the feel it has.

    Mapper. And ting.

...yeah it does, there's loads of physics and dynamic prop in GO. A few of the spawns in the official maps have a helicopter flying away just as you enter, so that's a dynamic prop and also they're still a load of physics barrels dotted around the place.

I remember someone saying something like this on the Steam forums, was there really a game, in the CS franchise, that was ready to release? Most have had multiple fixes and updates after release.

    • I agree with your first point, any performance issue should be a priority during the beta.
    • Textures, well, if I were a dev, this would probably go to the bottom of my TODO list, there's gameplay issues that are a bit more urgent.
    • I disagree with this one, barrels were removed because most times they break the game movement. Also, there is tons of physics in Dust, you probably don't notice them because they made them not solid, as they should have always been imo.
    • It's been said they'll add silencers. Don't know when but I can imagine maybe a "release day update"?
    • Indeed, the AI could be improved, but it's something I don't really care about, I'd rather go play online in a pub. :d
