how to fix this??

seems i cant get rid of this blackness around my water ina map im tryin to make i have water lod and env_cudemap on my water and all the sun/shadow stuff yet this keeps happening

    Make sure the water is made of nodraw and only the top has the water texture.

    I had this same thing happening one time with water when me and a friend were exporting vmfs from 3ds max to CS source.

    Re-texturing the brush wasnt enough to fix the problem, it wouldn't get fixed until I actually went and cropped the brush (I was also getting errors regarding the brush ids being messed up).

    In the end I think the problem was coming from the uvw info getting messed up somehow. I suggest that you start again. Delete this brush, make a new brush textured with nodraw and add the water to the surface only. Leave the brush as rectangular to begin with, if it works like that, then crop to shape.

    UPDATE: I spoke to my friend and remembered what the problem was, it is that for a water brush each face must be in a different smoothing group, if two are the same it will not render correctly.
